"Somers Parents" Facebook Page and the League of Women Voters

Many of us are parents of children in Somers. Many of us are members of the supposedly non partisan Facebook Group "Somers Parents." It only makes sense to be, right?

It's tough to navigate social media these days...Somers Moms, Somers Parents, the other Somers Parents, Somers Peeps, Somers Peeps Uncensored...the list goes on and on. Which are you a member of? Which aren't you? Who cares?

The scary part about these groups, aside from the fact that they are mindless and embarrassing, is that the people who run them are not mindless. They are the people that hold the keys to what you see in your feed and what you don't see. Should you choose to disagree with a point of view shared, you have the potential to blacklisted by the admins of said page.

Mind you, this isn't unique to a specific political demographic, it's a power play by people that enjoy power. For example...a few years back the admin of Somers Parents (the original Somers Parents) was caught with her hand in the cookie jar. In a Town election, the person in question decided to hold a political debate on her forum. She thought it would be a good idea to use her influence to supposedly create an apolitical space to invite two political candidates to have a bipartisan debate.

In theory it sounds great. A social media "Town Hall" where everyone could attend online. That was until she sent a message to the liberal candidate and accidentally copied the conservative candidate on it. It exposed that she was attempting to feed the liberal candidate questions, while pretending to tell the other candidate that the playing field was level. Remember when I said earlier that the admins were not mindless? Well I guess sometimes they are.

Somers Parents Facebook page, and the same "gem" who still yields power over it, were exposed for what they actually are...a liberal arm of Somers. Disguised as a place for parents to discuss daily comings and goings...but actually a typical liberal smoke screen to decide what you see in your social media feed, and more importantly what you do not.

If you are a member of Somers Parents, that's great. It's a useful tool if you want to watch people devolve into animals and share their lowest moments as humans. If you get off on that sort of a thing, welp...more power to you. You have found an online home. If you are bright enough to see past the illusion presented by the admin, or just smart enough to see it for what it is...congrats! Welcome to the real world!

There are an awful lot of people, with seemingly endless amounts of time on their hands, making no actual imprint on the world, that choose to admin these types of pages. They pretend to hold sway over a Town full of parents, but if you look deeper, all they do is push their agenda on you. Here are some photos from the Somers Parents admins personal page...the same woman who tells you what you can or cannot post on a supposed Town forum. The same woman that tried to hijack a Town election:

She's a mask maker...because your life is worth her time. This aged well.

Here's another of her apolitical pics. I wonder who she is pushing her non political group to vote for?

ree

Ah yes, crazy to think that this woman might be steering "her" 4500 followers towards certain candidates.

Here is a picture of a famous tennis player wearing a shiny necklace.

Okay enough about our shiny, power hungry Somers Parents Admin. Why does she matter? In real life she doesn't. That being said, she decides what you can or cannot see on your feed. Why is this? Because you allow her to. If you want to see someone bash a child over a mistake they made in Middle School...she will allow it...for awhile at least. Someone gets a DWI? Fair game on her page to speak ill will or post a police blotter about that person.

You want to have a point of view on where 70% of your property tax money goes? Not so fast. You give a shit about your kids education and don't agree with her point of view? You are banned dear (You're being political!). It's almost comical when you take a step back and view it from afar.

The same can be said for our "apolitical" School Board Trustee Q & A run by the PTA. Is it odd the moderator (League of Women Voters) of this Q & A was picked by the PTA? Maybe. Is it odd that the head of the PTA is a current candidate that will take part in the Q & A? Umm...yes.

We have touched on the League of Women Voters in this blog before:

Similar to the Somers Parents page, the PTA is run by liberals. It's no secret that liberal candidates have routinely been fed the questions prior to the debate in the past by the LVW. This year, sitting BOE President Amanda Kandell and her neutered boy toy Chadwick (we've seriously elected a guy name Chadwick multiple times?) Olsen, have decided to run with the sitting PTA boss as a running mate. Coincidence? Maybe. Not likely though.

Hopefully the Republican candidates, Rinaldi, Ritacco & Vala will see through the social media smoke screen. Hopefully they will see the propaganda that is Somers Parents for what it is. Hopefully theY choose to stay away from the obvious trap that lay in front of them with the League of Woman Voters.

Hopefully you see it too. Don't allow yourself to be taken in by these people. Do your own research and say what you feel the need to say. Don't allow yourself to fall prey to someone who thinks you're too dumb to think for yourself. Make your own choices for you and your children. If for nothing else...do it for your kids. Don't allow them to dictate your feed. Stand up for yourself, and ask them how your dictate for once.
